A memorial service will be held for Arthur at Tanglewood Village, 1293 S. 34th, Decatur, on Friday, September 11, 2009, at 10:00AM. Family entombment services will later be held at Christ the King Garden Mausoleum, at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside, Illinois, on September 19, 2009. Memorials may be made to Sts. James and Patrick Parish.Art was born on May 16, 1917, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Arthur and Helen LaChapelle Bruce. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving in the 1st Armored Division at Anzio and Monte Cassino Italy. Following his discharge from the Army, he later worked as a salesman for FMC-Link Belt Co. for forty-four years before retiring at the age of seventy. He married Frances Fernoch in Chicago, Illinois, on December `12, 1942. She preceded him in death. They had four children: Jack (Annette) Bruce of Westchester, Illinois, Jim Bruce of Cleveland, Ohio, Barb (Mike) Baroni of Decatur, and Brian (Lisa) Bruce of Melrose Park, Illinois. Art was the proud grandfather of Whitney, Arthur, Danny, and Michael. He is also survived by his brother: Stuart (Lorrie) Bruce of Mcalester, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by one brother.Art loved life and found a home and many new friends in Decatur, after moving here from Florida to be closer to family. He was an avid Notre Dame and Chicago Bears football fan. Everyone who met him enjoyed his sense of humor and zest for life. He will be missed.
