Annetta Louise Hensley, 93, of Decatur, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur and 10:00 – 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 30, 2025 at East Park Baptist Church, 1919 S Baltimore Ave, Decatur. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 30 at East Park Baptist Church with Pastor Ryan Banman officiating. Burial will be in Maroa Cemetery. Memorials in Annetta’s honor may be made to East Park Baptist Church or Black Tiger Honor Guard – make checks to John W. Hensley.
Annetta was born February 27, 1931 in Maroa, the daughter of James W. and Lula Mae (Daggett) Johnson. She married John C. Hensley on June 12, 1948, and they enjoyed 72 years of marriage until his passing on January 25, 2020. Annetta was a Gold Star mother and after losing her son in Vietnam, she began volunteering at the VA Medical Center in Danville. She had 4907 volunteer hours giving back to veterans and baked countless numbers of cookies and special treats for the patients at the VA. She was an active member of East Park Baptist Church where she played piano and organ.
Surviving are her son, John W. Hensley and wife Pam of Decatur; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Annetta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; son, Jim, who was killed in Vietnam, and sister, Sandra.
