Alvin Grisham

Funeral services will be 12:00 P.M., Monday, October 18, 2010, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation two hours prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in North Fork Cemetery, Decatur, IL, with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home are handling the arrangements.Alvin was born May 8, 1926, in Donnellson, IL, the son of Arch Cleveland Grisham and Gladys Bertha Broadhuhn Grisham Hebrock. He married Marian Jean Bogosian on August 6, 1949 in Brentwood, MO.Alvin was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church. He worked for the Wabash Railroad, Norfolk and Western Railway, and Norfolk Southern Railroad for 32 years, retiring in 1986. Alvin loved to travel including trips to Alaska, Hawaii, the Carribean, Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, Ireland, and all across the U.S. He was a U.S. Merchant Marine Veteran, serving in WWII in the Pacific and was a member of American Legion Post 105 , Elks and the Retired Railroaders. Alvin especially loved his rosebushes.He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marian Jean of Decatur, IL; daughters Kathleen Marian Miles and husband Robert of Decatur, IL, Jean Marie Shinbur and husband Fred of Hagerstown, MD; grandchildren Erin Heather (Miles) Powers and husband Shawn of Peoria, IL, Karen Michelle (Miles) Young and husband Adam of Bloomington, IL; step-grandchildren Scott Shinbur, Michelle (Shinbur) Scott, Greg Shinbur and Kelly Shinbur; great grandchildren Nathan Christopher Powers, Megan Nicole Young and Owen Edward Young; 9 step great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Edward L. Hebrock and sister Dorena Grisham. "
