Alta Jestis

Alta Mae Jestis, 103, of Cowden, IL, formerly of Harristown, IL, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at Prairie Rose Health Care Center, Pana, IL. A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 18th, at Herrick Christian Church. Burial will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 18th at Harristown Cemetery, Harristown, IL. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to donor's choice. Alta was born May 1, 1912, in Cerro Gordo, IL, the daughter of James Henderson and Emma (Hayes) Cox. She married Roy Wilson Jestis in 1929, in Argenta, IL. He preceded her in death in 1965. Alta was a member of Argenta United Methodist Church. She retired from the Niantic-Harristown school district after 23 years of service. Surviving are her daughters: Shirley A. (Tobe) Hilvety of Herrick, IL, Violet I. (William) Burns of Bend, OR and Jackie (Jim) Allsop of Beecher City, IL. Also surviving are several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Alta was preceded in death by her husband, daughters Ruth I. Harmon and Betty J. Woltz, son Richard Jestis, brothers and sisters. "
