Alexander C. Gnavi, 95, of Decatur, IL., passed away at 12:15 A.M. on Sunday (02-07-2016) at Primrose, Decatur, IL with his daughter Andrea and grandson Jason by his side.Funeral services will be 12:00 noon Thursday (02-11-2016) at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, with visitation from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday (02-10-2016) at the funeral home. Burial will be at North Fork Cemetery, Decatur, IL.Memorials may be made to: Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.Alex was born on May 5, 1920 in Panama, IL., the son of Peter and Maria (Beanato) Gnavi. He married Dorothy June Boudreau on August 5, 1944 in South Mills, North Carolina. She preceded him in death on March 30, 2012.Alex served his country in the United States Coast Guard. He worked for Illinois Power for thirty nine years, retiring in 1985. Alexander belonged to the American Legion, the Italian Club of Decatur, and was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan. In 2012 at the age of 92 he was fortunate enough to go on the Central Illinois Honor Flight to Washington D.C. with his grandson Jason. He would talk about this as the trip of a lifetime. Through the years he enjoyed spending summer vacations in Maine at his in-laws cabin on Chemo Pond with his wife Dorothy and daughters: Brenda, Paula, and Andrea. More than anything he loved his family and ice cream cones. To his grandchildren, great grandchildren and many others he will always be known as Pom. Later in life he cherished spending time with his great grandchildren: Mackenzie, Chase and Leo, they were the light of his life. Pom was loved by all that knew him.He will always be remembered for his caring loving way, always a smile, and his sense of humor.He will be greatly missed by his daughters: Brenda Gnavi Cook of Edwardsville, IL., Paula Gnavi of Boynton Beach, FL., and Andrea Kaufman and husband Jerry of Decatur, IL., whom Alex thought of as his own son.; six grandchildren: Julie Cook of Edwardsville, IL., Todd Cook and wife Debi of Whitefish, MT, Sara Gnavi of Deerfield Beach, FL., Kristin Pellecer and husband Johnny of Lakeworth, FL., special grandson, Jason Parker (Alicia Reed) of O’Fallon, MO., and Ashley Kaufman (Matthew Grammer) of Decatur, IL.; three great-grandchildren: Leo Alexander Pellecer, Mackenzie Lynn Grammer and Chase Matthew Grammer.He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two brothers - Walter and Joseph.The family would like to thank Dr. Anthony McCormack, Staff at Primrose Retirement Village, Shirley Lohmar - St Johns Hospice, and the 4th floor nursing staff at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
