Asher O. Geisler passed away on April 28, 2013 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. He was 87 years old.
He left his wife, Betty Geisler, daughter Harlynne Geisler and husband, Jud Farrar, son Gary Geisler, son Jeffrey Geisler and wife Kelly Geisler; grandchildren Minda Bree Dean, E. Samuel Geisler, Dalton Geisler, Clayton Geisler, Grant Geisler, Elliot Geisler; great grandchildren Ashley Dean and Addison Dean; cousins Reggie Waks, Randy Waks, Steven Waks, Dennis Waks.
He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Minnie Geisler, brothers Alan Geisler and Morris Geisler; close cousins Paul Waks and Joe Widervitz.
Asher served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He practiced law in Decatur for 52 years and enjoyed the opportunities to represent many from our community as well as the comraderie of fellow lawyers, judges and many courthouse persons, all of whom he valued as friends.
Asher was a life long member of Temple B’nai Abraham, serving as a past president and on the board.
In recent years, Asher enjoyed writing articles for the paper, sharing his good humor and stories with the community.
The family wishes to thank the determined efforts of the DMH ER staff including Shawn and Dale.
A private graveside service will be held. A memorial service open to the public will be held Sunday, May 5 at 12:30 at Temple B’nai Abraham, 1326 W. Eldorado, Decatur followed by a luncheon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Temple B’nai Abraham. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, will be handling the arrangements.
